Pooping in the pool

Let me begin by saying that Sky IS potty trained and hasn't had an accident in a very long time. With that said, this week has been a challenging one to say the least. She pooped in a pool on Mon. and Wed. but both times were caught early and basically contained in her bathing suit (although not very fun to clean in the bathroom with Brad loose/helping in the bathroom!). Both times Sky was disciplined and given a talking to. We went to a pool on Thurs. without incident so I was hoping that we were over it and ready to move on. I LOVE swimming and am a bit of a pool junkie, by the way.
On Saturday, we went swimming at the BIOLA pool while Ken was teaching his summer school class. Sky started shouting that she had to go poopy so we quickly exited the pool but not before I saw a poop log floating by. UGH! By the time we went to the bathroom and got back to the pool, it had been evacuated and shut down for chemical treatments because of the poop. Needless to say we got many dirty looks and it was not my proudest parenting moment! I think I'm going to go with swimmy diapers until we get this figured out. We certainly won't be getting as many invitations to pool parties if we keep this up!

Scrapbooking Bliss

Today was a fabulous day as I spent most of it at a local scrapbook store working on my scrapbook. I got a lot done and I'm caught up through October 2007. Ken was so nice to stay home and watch the kids (although Sky was at VBS for the morning) and they, of course, went to Chipotle for lunch after he picked her up from VBS. Sky loves that place as much as we do.
Tonight I tried to cook a dish from some of the things I bought at the Asian supermarket but it was so hot we couldn't eat it. Then we had a family movie night and watched Madagascar. Sky had never seen it and she enjoyed it. Family movie nights are always a hit as we usually have ice cream, wear our pajamas, and turn the lights off.

Summer fun continues...

Honestly, where does the time go? We are having way too much fun in sunny California! Yesterday, after VBS, we went to a pool party through the MOMS Club I belong to. They had a great kiddie swimming area as well as a large pool. Brad sits in a floaty thing and is quite content while Sky wears inflatable swimmy things on her arms to keep afloat.
Then in the evening we had a family night at the aquarium. The Aquarium is celebrating 10 years and they are doing it up BIG. There was free face painting, cake, live music, crafts, etc. We didn't get home until 10pm and both kids fell asleep in the car on the ride home.

Today was an adventure too. While Sky was in VBS, I went with my friend, Mary (who is from Singapore and will be returning there next month) to an Asian supermarket/Chinatown area. We spent a long time there and she suggested many things for me to buy, telling me what they are and how to use them. It was a great experience. So far my favorite purchase was lychees, a type of fruit. We also had shaved ice at a local restaurant and that was really delicious. We were a bit late picking up our kids from VBS-oops.
Then I had my friend Amy and her 2 kids over for lunch and play. Her daughter is 6 months older than Sky and her son is 8 months older than Brad. They recently moved pretty close to us and their new home has a beautiful in ground pool. So, she invited us over for later and we took her up on it. We just got back from a relaxing swim in the pool at their house. Ken came too as we left right after he returned from work. Another cool thing about their house is the fruit trees. They have all sorts of stuff growing in their yard and the peaches are ripe right now. We picked a HUGE bag and brought them home. Now I'm looking for a peach cobbler recipe (or any other yummy peach recipes). We will have an endless supply for a while.
Our grapes should be ripe in about a month and I hope to make grape jelly. We also planted strawberries and have eaten 3 of them and they were quite good. Maybe it will produce more next season.

Vacation Bible School

Today Sky started Vacation Bible School (VBS) at a church right up the road. I actually walked her there this morning with Brad in the wagon as well. Brad imitates dog's barking as we hear them barking when we walked through the neighborhood. It's freakin' cute. VBS is an Olympic theme and Sky seemed to really enjoy herself. It goes from 9-12 and Brad took a fabulous morning nap so I was able to get a lot done this morning. It was great! I'm looking forward to a week of this!
We then tried to go to the Santa Ana Zoo but it was closed because they were filming a movie there today. Bummer! I was really looking forward to going there as I have not been there yet. I guess we'll have to try again some other time. So we went to the Discovery Science Center instead. We went with my friend Anisa and her daughter, Charlise.
Tonight I had my Pilates class and then went to Target to get diapers, etc.

Haircuts, swimming and car washing

This morning started at 6am with Sky yelling for help from her room because she got her arm stuck in one of the bedrails of her bed. Ken rescued her but none of us really fell back to sleep. Today was a day for mundane tasks that have to be done every so often. I took the kids for haircuts. I held Brad on my lap and he screamed the whole time. He looks very handsome now with his buzz cut though. Sky did great and doesn't seem to mind the haircut at all as long as the hair dryer doesn't get turned on. Our hairdresser, Lupe, was very nice and handed out lollipops when it was all over.
Then we went into a pet store in the same plaza and saw all kinds of dogs, cats, lizards, hamsters, rabbits, turtles, fish, etc. I was glad that we made it out of there without any new additions to the family.
Then we swam in the BIOLA pool and Sky spent more time under water than she did above. The swimming lessons were really good for her and she has much more confidence about going underwater than she did before. We also play swimming lessons in the bath tub at home and she puts her head underwater.
This evening we washed both cars, Ken planted some vegetables that were given to us by a friend (now we just have to keep them alive), I went to work out at Curves (I'm participating in a fitness study for a month), and I met a friend at the park to play bocce. A fun day and I'm tired.

Sky and Brad's Birthday

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping that this blog will help us stay in touch with all of our friends and family who are so far away. I thought I'd start by sharing some stories about Brad and Sky's birthday and birthday party. Their birthday was on Wednesday and we celebrated in Downtown Disney, a shopping area outside the park. We ate at the Rainforest Cafe and then stayed for a while and watched the fireworks that are set off at Disneyland every night. The best part was that their Auntie Michelle (Eric's wife) was here visiting and was able to celebrate with us.

We had their party on Friday. It was a princess/knight slaying the dragon party and we had a total of 21 kids here. I made a castle birthday cake and we played lots of fun games. The boys slayed a dragon pinata while the girls plundered a cardboard castle (that we had made from moving boxes). We also did a princess walk game (like a cake walk but with princess faces rather than numbers)and we played pin the crown on the princess. Every boy got an inflatable sword and every girl got an inflatable wand. Many of the girls came dressed as princesses. It was a blast!
