Star of the Week

Sky has been chosen to be the star of the week at preschool next week. Here is a picture of her with her certificate. She will get a bulletin board devoted to her and they will post pictures of Sky with her favorite things. Above you can see a picture of her with her favorite movie (Barbie in the Nutcracker ballet), favorite toy (Barbie), and favorite book (Disney princess stories). She has to bring in her favorite snack on Wednesday and I think she has settled on toaster strudel. She also gets to bring in a favorite stuffed animal and I think the Hello Kitty that she made at Build-a-Bear has won that contest. Each day the students get to do a classroom job. One of the privileges of being star of the week is that she will get to do all of the jobs one day next week. Brad is currently sick with a double ear infection, fever, and pink eye so I'm hoping that Sky doesn't catch that and end up missing any of her special week next week.

Minivan!

This past week has been a busy one! We sold our Mazda on Wednesday to a BIOLA student. Actually, the buyer babysat for us a few times and she is a nursing student and needs a reliable car to get her around. Her dad is also a professor at Talbot.
So, we paid off the minivan today and registered it as well. It is a 1997 Honda Odyssey. I really like it. It is relatively small and I like that it has 4 doors like a car. It doesn't have a cd player so we might add that. The kids love it.

Cemeteries and Birthdays

Whenever we go to preschool, we always drive by a cemetery. The other day Sky asked what that place was (she saw flowers and balloons there) and I said that's where dead people are buried. Then I elaborated, "Just their bodies" because we've talked a bit about heaven and how that's where we go when we die, etc. Well, Sky didn't make the connection I was trying to convey and she responded knowingly by saying, "Yeah, not their heads." Pretty funny.
We've been very busy with birthday parties this month. Last week we went to a Mickey and Friends party for her friend Timi (and his brother Michael). This week we are going to her friend Kelli's birthday party which is themed after the tv show "Good Eats" and the kids will be making their own pizzas. Next week she will go to a party for her friend Sammi at an amusement park called Adventure City. And she had to turn down a birthday pool party for her preschool friend Lara because of conflicts with another birthday party! She has quite the life...

The Lost Tooth

Ken wanted to show off his teeth too.

Sky knocked her two front teeth loose way back in September. She hit her face on her bedrail and the resulting dentist appointments and xrays told us that she would lose the teeth soon. Well, one of the teeth solidified itself while the other twisted into a weird position and made it very difficult for Sky to eat certain foods.

Last week the tooth fairy visited Sky's preschool to promote dental hygiene and we thought it would be a good time to take action. So, last week we had the dentist pull out the weird, twisted tooth. Sky was so brave! She didn't cry at all and then the tooth fairy did indeed visit our house that night, bringing Sky a new Strawberry Shortcake video.

Doctor Sky

Sky continues to LOVE playing doctor. She takes care of friends, family, stuffed animals, basically anything that will go along with her perpetual checkups and immunizations. She has 3 different doctor's kits, books about going to the hospital/doctor/dentist, and a few dvds about characters visiting the doctor. She loves to listen to people tell "owie stories", stories about when they got hurt (an "owie"). The more gruesome, the better. I am rather proud of her because beneath all of this love for doctoring is a genuine care for people.
